Default 3:90 or 4:10 (Thanks Rick!)

First, thanks to Rick, who (in the 3 months I've owned my mustang and talked on forums was the first who was actually able to help me figure out my gear ratio, since I'm the 3rd owner..)

So 3.25 turns on the drive shaft exactly w/ 1 rotation = STOCK 3.73 gears.

So 3.90 or 4.10 now? It's a daily driver, and I've seen people with 4.10s tuned so they still run 2500rpm ~ 80mph.. and I drive every day it's not snowing or pooring.. Since I'm going to take it to CJ for the work, how much and what do you recommend? I've never taken it to the track, and don't know if I ever will but I never want to have a Neon or Cobolt beat me either..

Also I have to admit I thought my gears were not stock given the 'fun factor' I was already getting, but with a perf chip I guess that could have played into it..

How much for it all.. gears, install, & tune..?

Thanks Again...

Your car has 3:27 gears in in stock. 3:73s were never ann option until this year.

I would go right for the 4:10s. The difference on the highway is only a couple hundred RPMs and the acceleration difference will be noticable. FRPP does not offer a 3.90 either so you would have to go with another brand.

Gears are $549 installed including all parts, labor, and synthetic fluid
Tuner is $379 and a tune is included. YOU will need a tuner or a $139 speedo recalibration box for your car.

"Tuner is $379 and a tune is included."

You mean I have to buy an actual tuning device or like a chip? I beleive I have a chip already (so the dealer told me...)

recal box is cheaper but what's the drawback, I'm guessing I'll end up using the tuner again in the future...

Also I read a LOC rebuild kit is recommend when doing the rear, is that additional or is that in the $549 price.

Sounds good, I'll see you guys in Dec sometime...I was going to change my transmission fluid this week, should I just wait or will that not matter since we are dealing with the rear end here?

The tuner will serve you better as you will use it again in the future. Depending on what you have planned for your car your going to get into the area where you make a change to the car and a tune is going to be required to make that mod work correctly so my motto is if your going to do it right do it right the first time.

I roll 3:73 and I drive almost a hour to work everday, all highway. I am fine for the most part but I live in a very hilly area so my motor is going to take a lot more beating then you guys out there in the flat lands. You will be fine.

I drove my Cobra to Mustang Week in SC from PA last summer. I run 4:10 gears, made over 600 hp at the time, and averaged 21 mpg driving 75-80 mph the whole way down.
